Why TOMICA Is Different: A Closer Look at TOMICA Diecast in Australia
TOMICA has been part of Japanese toy and car culture for decades, but many Australian collectors are still only beginning to discover how much variety and detail exists across the range.

At Seriously Japan, we are proud to be a TOMICA Authorised Reseller in Australia, and one of the things we enjoy most is showing people that TOMICA goes far beyond the little red and white boxes they may already recognise.
Small Cars, Impressive Detail
One of the first things that stands out about TOMICA is how closely many models resemble the real vehicles.
Even the standard TOMICA range offers excellent proportions, suspension action and, depending on the model, moving features such as opening doors.
The range itself is incredibly varied too. You will find everything from GT-Rs, Supras and Civics to ambulances, police vehicles, excavators, food trucks and commercial vehicles.
That variety is one of the reasons TOMICA works so well for both collectors and families.
Our regular Australian TOMICA range starts from $7.50, making it an easy way to begin a collection without needing to spend heavily.
TOMICA Premium Takes the Detail Further
TOMICA Premium adds another level of detail for collectors and car enthusiasts.
One of the biggest differences is the wheels. Premium models often use designs that closely resemble the factory wheels fitted to the real car rather than a more generic wheel design.
The underbody can also be surprisingly detailed.
On many Premium vehicles, raised moulding underneath the car represents components such as the exhaust, mufflers, differential, suspension parts and other structures.
As someone with a mechanical background, this is one of the details we notice immediately.

The features also vary depending on the vehicle. For example, the Mazda RX-7 FC includes pop-up headlights and opening doors, while other models may include opening bonnets or different moving features.
The Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 V-Spec II Nür is another standout. Details such as the Bayside Blue finish, bonnet scoop and overall shape make the model immediately recognisable.

Some Premium models also use clear plastic for headlights and tail lights, while metallic paint finishes can give the vehicle much more depth when viewed in person.
TOMICA Is Not Just for Collectors
One of the best things about TOMICA is that it can be enjoyed in completely different ways.
Kids can play with them.
Collectors can display them.
Car enthusiasts can search for models they remember, own or wish they owned.
At conventions, we see all of these customers stopping at the TOMICA stand.
Children are often drawn to police cars, emergency vehicles, trucks and working vehicles, while adults tend to recognise cars from the JDM scene they grew up with.
Sometimes that creates a great moment between generations.
A parent might recognise a Skyline, RX-7, Supra or WRX and explain to their child why that car was such a big deal.
The TOMICA Display Experience
Seriously Japan brings a dedicated TOMICA display stand to selected conventions in Australia.
Rather than showing only boxed products, we also display opened models so customers can see what the cars actually look like.
You can look at the wheels.
You can see the paint.
You can compare standard TOMICA with Premium.
You can even look underneath the car.
That makes a big difference when the detailing is difficult to appreciate through packaging alone.
The TOMICA Garages Always Get Attention
The TOMICA garages are some of the most popular products we bring to conventions.
People press the button, watch the garage open and close, and immediately smile.
Kids love them.
Adults do too.
They show that TOMICA is not only about collecting individual cars. The range also includes playsets, garages and products that allow collectors and families to build a much larger TOMICA world.
From Regular TOMICA to Japan-Only Releases
The range goes much further than standard TOMICA.
At Seriously Japan, we carry and source a variety of TOMICA products, including:
TOMICA No. 1–150
TOMICA Premium
TOMICA Premium Unlimited
Dream TOMICA
tomica+
Premium RS and Racing
TOMICA Transporters
special sets and selected Japan-only releases
Premium Unlimited is especially interesting for fans of franchises such as Initial D, Fast & Furious, Back to the Future and Evangelion.
For some customers, those cars become their first step into TOMICA collecting.
Why TOMICA Matters to Seriously Japan
TOMICA has a strong connection with Japanese car culture, which makes it a natural fit for Seriously Japan.
My own experience with cars, mechanical work and time spent in Japan means we look at these models from both a collector and automotive perspective.
I have also been collecting TOMICA since around 2013, including older collaboration pieces such as sealed RE Amemiya race cars.
Becoming a TOMICA Authorised Reseller gives us the opportunity to introduce more Australian customers to a brand we genuinely enjoy.
Our goal is simple.
We want Seriously Japan to become a place where families, collectors and car enthusiasts can discover TOMICA, learn about the different ranges and find something that connects with them.
