Our Brand

For those that know Japan,

We instantly think of Anime, Kimono, Cherry Blossoms, Mt Fuji and so much more...

However, Japan also has a steep culture for creating character mascots, just like NHK's Domo-Kun.

For the Seriously Japan logo we wanted to create a brand logo that would incorporate the use of a newly created Japanese character mascot.

The Seriously Japan logo started out as a terrible pencil drawing in a note book which you can see amongst the images of the logo creation down below.

The pencil drawing included:

The red sun, just like the Japanese flag,

The iconic Mt Fuji, depicted in many Japanese souvenirs and art,

And a "hungry giant" character mascot that loves Japan so much he wants to eat it all up.

But...

It just didn't quite seem Japan without including the famous spring time feature of cherry blossoms,

And a change from a hungry giant to a robot character mascot who is the protector of Japan.

The hand drawn image and ideas were presented to our Japanese design team and the logo you see today was the final creation, all that was left was to give the Seriously Japan robot a name.

The logo was shown to a circle of Japanese friends to help think of a name.

The logo, by chance reminded one friend of the Japanese children's story called でいたらぼっち (Deitarabocchi); a giant who made the rivers and mountains in Japan.

The name given was...

郷どん (Goudon)

Which kind of sounds like Gordon in English

The character for (Gou) can also be read as (Sato) which means village in the mountains and どん (Don) is a title in a name used to represent a person of importance or literally refers a big person/creature.

Seriously Japan's 郷どん is the protector of Japan living in the mountains.

Under our brand...

Seriously Japan desires to make products that seriously portray Japan and uses natural writing and phrasing just as a native Japanese person would.

We seriously hope that 郷どん (Goudon) becomes a recognised and trusted brand of Japanese goods,

And a character mascot that you will forever remember.
